Professional Year Program in Accounting

The Accounting PYP (Previously SMIPA) is a Professional Year Programme for accounting graduates, developed by CPA Australia in collaboration with the ICA (Institute of Chartered Accountants) and IPA (Institute of Public Accountants). The program’s goal is to assist international accounting graduates in developing the skills they need to succeed in the workplace.


Also, candidates who complete the programme successfully are able to receive an additional 5 points on the Department of Home Affairs points test.

PYP in Accounting Checklist

Anyone who meets the following criteria can apply for the Professional Year program in Accountancy

  • The candidates must possess a graduate or postgraduate degree in Accounting from an Australian University which offers at least 2 years of credit points
  • Candidates must obtain a score of a minimum 6 in all the bands of the IELTS English Proficiency Test or an equivalent score of 50 marks in the PTE exam
  • A migration skill assessment outcome letter from an authorized accounting professional association
  • A valid passport with a Temporary Graduate Visa (must at least have applied for the same) and minimum 12 months validity.
